Peter Zumthor was born in Basel in 1943. He is one of the most interesting international architects of the 21st century. Zumthor is the architect behind the stunning new David Geffen Galleries, which will hold LACMA's permanent collection.
Having studied at the Schule fuer Gestaltung in Basel and at the Pratt Institute in New York, he then renovated various protected buildings in the canton of Graubünden, before opening his own studio in 1979. His main works include the Sogn Benedetg Chapel in Somvitg (1988), the thermal baths in Vals (1996), the Kunsthaus in Bregenz (1997) and the Swiss Pavilion at the Expo 2000 in Hanover.
