$2,500.00
Member Price$2,250.00
Los Carpinteros, A and B (A y B), is a limited edition sculpture made of hot-rolled blue-gray steel. It is a working hinge with countersunk screw holes forming the letters "A" and "B," symbols of education, of new beginnings, and of the capacity of the human imagination to dream and create.
Los Carpinteros is an internationally-known artists' collective founded in Havana, Cuba in 1992 by Alexandre Arrechea, Marco Castillo, and Dagoberto Rodriguez. Its work investigates the way art is made, and how hand tools, wood and other materials used by carpenters, was originally used.
This work was commissioned by LACMA's Modern and Contemporary Art Council; proceeds go toward new acquisitions of modern and contemporary art. No. 21/25 from the edition is in the museum's permanent collection.
