Chicago architect Louis Sullivan (1856-1924) is considered "the father of skyscrapers" and "the father of modernism."

These holiday cards are based on a detail of an elevator surround from the Chicago Stock Exchange Building. It was manufactured by Winslow Brothers Co. (Chicago, 1887-1921) from a design by Sullivan and is in LACMA's permanent collection.
