Maurice Logan California Beaches Journal
$13.46
This California Beaches blank journal features a travel poster that was designed by Maurice Logan and produced by Southern Pacific. Created during the prosperous 1920s, this poster depicts a young woman in a bathing cap and figure- hugging tank swimsuit basking in the California sunshine. In this advertisement, Southern Pacific was selling its most important destination: Southern California. With the newly opened Panama Canal dominating commercial shipping, railroads increasingly relied on vacation travelers. Logan, an influential teacher and watercolorist, lived in Northern California most of his life.
LACMA has a large collection of travel posters in its permanent collection, including this one by Maurice Logan (United States, 1886–1977).
