Lawrence Weiner’s SUOMI FINLAND PASSI PORT PASSPORT is a numbered edition facsimile of a blank passport in which Weiner created drawings. The original blank Suomi Finland passport was given to Weiner by Alfredo Jaar after Jaar’s installation of One Million Finnish Passports at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Helsinki in 1995.
Weiner's artwork constitutes a self-portrait of his logic in the form of texts and abstract visual elements. Verbal and visual cues swim in equilibrium, with text and image becoming one and the same. This edition is a facsimile of that passport.
