Ed Moses: PARTS-DARC, 1993
$810.00
This limited-edition print was commissioned by the Prints and Drawings Council of LACMA.
Printmaking has always held enormous appeal for artist Ed Moses, and it has often been the means through which he has explored some of his most provocative themes and developments. PARTS-DARC was inspired by a visit Moses made to the 20,000-year-old paintings in the caves of Lascaux, France, and by his deep anxiety over the L.A. riots of 1992. The primitive forms of heads in profile against a rock-like background (a style Moses called “Ror Shock”) recall the work of the great French artist, Jean Dubuffet. Moses’ ability to capture the spirit of the world’s earliest artists, in an utterly modern mode akin to graffiti, is what gives PARTS-DARC its pathos, urban humor, and tough beauty.
Established in 1965, The Prints and Drawings Council (PDC) supports the Prints and Drawings Department at LACMA. In addition to raising funds for acquisitions for the museum’s permanent collection, the PDC encourages collecting, scholarship, and appreciation in the field of original works of art on paper. PDC members receive many benefits, including greater discounts on the PDC commissioned prints when purchased through the council. Learn
