Photos by Hans Danuser, edited by Kobi Gantenbein, essay by Phillip Usprung

In the book Seeing Zumthor, Images by Hans Danuser, photos three buildings done by celebrated Swiss architect Peter Zumthor's were taken by Hans Danuser, one of the foremost contemporary Swiss photographers. Danuser’s images of Zumthor's work comment equally on the art of photography and the art of architecture.

More than twenty years ago Danuser photographed, at Zumthor’s invitation, two buildings in Switzerland: the protective structure built for archaeological excavations in Chur and St. Benedict’s Chapel in Sumvitg,This book combines photos from those two series with one of Zumthor's most famous buildings - the spa at Therme Vals. The book also includes an interview with Danuser as well as an essay by art historian Philip Ursprung exploring the relationship between the two seemingly different disciplines of architecture and photography.

*Peter Zumthor was commissioned to rethink LACMA's campus. The preliminary plans are not included in this book but may be seen in the exhibition The Presence of the Past: Peter Zumthor Reconsiders LACMA.
