The Sunkist mug was inspired by the work of Corita Kent, and the image is taken from her serigraph As Witnesses to the Light ForJohn23 and J.F.K. from 1964. Her art was inspired by the graphic commercial art of the 1960s and 70s.
Corita Kent was an artist, activist and educator whose teachings influenced many artists in Los Angeles. Works by Corita are included in LACMA's permanent collection and her art was included in the exhibition California Design, 1930–1965: “Living in a Modern Way."
