This unique embroidered army jacket was created for Wear LACMA by THE GREAT. It features a relaxed fit, four patch pockets, a shirttail hem and a dramatic band of embroidery on the back of the garment.
Emily Current and Meritt Elliott, founders of THE GREAT., have been business partners for almost two decades. Their journey as entrepreneurs, brand builders, stylists and designers have led them to their most proud achievement to date - a fully realized women's wear collection, aptly called, THE GREAT. Champions of supportive female friendships and the spirit of creative fearlessness, Emily and Meritt are known for their authentic, kind and optimistic approach to both design and life.
This jacket was inspired by William Keith's painting, California Pines, 1878, in LACMA's permanent collection. Native Californians, Emily and Meritt feel a connection to the beauty of landscape paintings of the American West such as this one by Keith.
Since October 2012, Wear LACMA has collaborated with an array of established designers who have produced unique art-inspired products inspired by LACMA's collection and exhibitions. Designed in California, these items are sold at the LACMA Store and online, with all proceeds benefiting the museum. This project was created by LACMA's Director's Circle.
