This embroidered denim sailor jacket was created for Wear LACMA by THE GREAT. It features a relaxed fit, shawl collar, two patch pockets, and embroidered flowers and petals scattered over the front, back, and sleeves of the garment.
Emily Current and Meritt Elliott have been business partners for almost two decades. Their journey as entrepreneurs, brand builders, stylists and designers have led them to their most proud achievement to date - a fully realized women's wear collection, aptly called, THE GREAT. Champions of supportive female friendships and the spirit of creative fearlessness, Emily and Meritt are known for their authentic, kind and optimistic approach to both design and life.
This jacket was inspired by Granville Redmond's painting California Poppy Field, circa 1926, in LACMA's permanent collection. Emily and Meritt are native Californians and feel a connection to the beauty of landscape paintings of the American West.
Since October 2012, Wear LACMA has collaborated with an array of established designers who have produced unique art-inspired products inspired by LACMA's collection and exhibitions. Designed in California, these items are sold at the LACMA Store and online, with all proceeds benefiting the museum. This project was created by LACMA's Director's Circle.
