Shinique Smith (b. 1971, Baltimore) is a Los Angeles-based artist known for her monumental creations of found textiles, calligraphy, and collage inspired by the vast array things that society consumes and discards. She has presented her work in solo and group exhibitions at institutions including the Baltimore Museum of Art, California African American Museum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Studio Museum in Harlem, and her exuberant works are featured in numerous collections around the globe. Smith earned her BFA and MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art, where she was also awarded the Alumni Medal of Honor.
