Nick Fouquet has created The Wheel of Fortune, a unique caramel colored hat that was inspired by an 18th-century European painting in LACMA’s collection. The Wheel of Fortune vintage tarot card and a match (a Fouquet detail) are tucked into the 1 1/2 in. African indigo textile hatband. The hat has a half-brim leather binding and a brass clip. Inside is a 2 in. roan leather sweatband and silk liner with mini velvet bow.
Nick Fouquet started his hat-making business in 2011 with a storefront in Venice, California. All his hats are handmade and one of a kind, with a focus on natural aesthetics. This video shows how these hats are made.
The LACMA work that inspired this hat is attributed to the Bohemian School and depicts a fortune teller. The painting alludes to the five senses as seen by the berries, flowers, and musical instruments held by a child and by the hand that is being read by the fortune teller.
