This 'Monkey's Hand' pouchette bag in cactus colored leather was created by NewbarK, a luxury collection of handmade shoes and handbags with a chic, simple design aesthetic, for Wear LACMA. This pouchette is made of supple leather and is beautifully printed and constructed. NewbarK was launched in 2008 by stylists and sisters Maryam and Marjan Malakpour. NewbarK shoes and handbags exemplify a streamlined yet contrasting use of high-qualtiy materials, crafted in an artisan factory in Los Angeles. These aesthetics make NewbarK's creations look stylish, simple, and very comfortable.
The designers were inspired by a print of a monkey's hand created by Henri Charles Guérard (France, 1846–1897) from the museum’s permanent collection seen here. This print was created before 1888 and is in LACMA's Prints and Drawings Department.
Wear LACMA: 50th Anniversary Edition: Wear LACMA is an art and fashion project featuring limited-edition pieces created by some of Los Angeles’s top designers and inspired by the museum’s permanent collection and exhibitions. These one-of-a-kind fashion items will be sold at the LACMA stores and through Farfetch.com with all proceeds benefiting the museum. This project was created by LACMA’s Director’s Circle.
