The Matisse note card folio includes 5 each of 2 different images. Henri Matisse (French, 1869–1954), is considered to be the supreme colorist of the twentieth century. The teachers he ranked above academic painters were the anonymous designers of exotic, brilliant textiles.

Cards feature Red Madras Headdress (Madame Matisse: Madras rouge), 1907 and The Red Madras Headdress, 1907. LACMA's permanent collection includes over forty additional works by Henri Matisse (France, 1869-1942).
