This rose gold-plate pendant on a chain was created for WEAR LACMA by Juan Carlos Obando. He is a Los Angeles-based fashion and accessories designer who began his career as an Art and Creative Director for top advertising agencies. Known for his unassuming approach to evening wear and his unique eye for color, Obando's work reflects an understanding for the value of hand-craftsmanship, tailoring, and traditional sewing techniques as a medium to express his vision through something handmade yet incredibly modern.
Obando was inspired by the sculpture Mercury, 1560-1565, by the artist Willem Danielsz van Tetrode in LACMA's European art collection.
WEAR LACMA is an art and fashion project featuring small-run pieces created by some of Los Angeles's top designers and inspired by the museum's permanent collection or buildings. The project was sponsored by LACMA's Director's Circle.
