Jean-Michel Basquiat 'Versus' Perfumed Candle

Member Price

This Jean-Michel Basquiat 'Versus' perfumed candle was made in France and features a detail from the artist's painting Versus. Basquiat (1960–88) used text and imagery in his dramatic work and was fluent in at least three languages. In addition to being an artist, he formed and performed in a noise rock band. The ylang flower with smoked tea fragrance was created by the Givaudan perfumers Shyamala Maisondieu and Olivier Pescheux.

Basquiat lived in Los Angeles for more than six months in 1983 and he formed important connections with local collectors and the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) here during that time. LACMA's collections include many contemporary artists.
