This Jean-Michel Basquiat 'Red' perfumed candle was made in France and features a detail from one of the artist's paintings. Basquiat (1960–88) used text and imagery in his dramatic work. He was fluent in at least three languages and formed a noise rock band in addition to being an artist. The spiced plum fragrance was created by the Givaudan perfumers Shyamala Maisondieu and Olivier Pescheux.
Basquiat lived in Los Angeles for more than six months in 1983 and he formed important connections with local collectors and the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) here during that time. LACMA's collections include many contemporary artists.
