By Frans Evenhuis and Robert Landau
Ingenue Marilyn Monroe at the Hotel Bel-Air. Ronald Reagan -- buff, tan, and headed for the White House. Elizabeth Taylor, Spencer Tracy, Grace Kelly, Clark Gable, Sophia Loren, Bogie and Bacall. Hollywood Poolside: Classic Images of Legendary Stars is a collection of these mesmerizing, rare photographs of celebrities posed at poolside. Today these images comprise a fascinating "family album" of the film industry's best-loved stars and the fabulous lifestyle they lived. Or perhaps these classic photos simply reinforce the fabled lifestyle that studio publicitiy agents created that the stars didn't want to live. Throughout this book, authors Frans Evenhuis and Robert Landau juxtapose the realities of the stars lives with the mythical quality of the photographs, creating a nostalgic study of Hollywood dream-making.
Frans Evenhuis has been a graphic designer for 30 years and has collected poolside photos forever. Robert Landau is a photojournalist with three books to his credit: Billboard Art, Outrageous L.A. and Airstream. His photography has been exhibited in galleries and museums internationally.
