These simple yet sumptuous women’s summer desert 'waris" boots are made of distressed light lavender suede. George Esquivel has been designing custom-made shoes since 1994. Esquivel is a modern American workshop specializing in rare, handcrafted leather shoes and accessories, which are made with leather sourced from the best tanneries in the world. The line seeks to reinvent tradition for the 21st century and create a new heritage brand. This video featuring the sounds of shoemaking shows the truly handcrafted nature of these boots.
Esquivel was inspired by Felipe Santiago Gutiérrez’s extraordinary painting Portrait of a Woman with a Marigold, seen here. Gutiérrez was born in Mexico and studied in Mexico City before travelling to the United States and Europe to continue his arts education. He was invited to Colombia where he founded the Academy of Fine Arts in Bogota in 1886.
