Clare Vivier's blue 'L'HABIT NE FAIT PAS LE MOINE' tee was inspired by a vest from LACMA’s Costume and Textile collection dating from the French Revolution. Vivier has designed a Clare V. collection for LACMA that embrace the spirit of the garment; here phrase printed on the tee in cream echoes the words stitched in petit point on the vest's right pocket. It means "the habit does not make the monk," but we might say "don't judge a book by its cover." During the French Revolution, clothing served as a canvas for political debate.
Clare Vivier’s designs marry classic French glamour with minimalist L.A. cool in a line of handbags and clutches that are both utilitarian and stylish. With a nod to socially conscious construction, each bag bears the label “Locally Made." Vivier is firmly rooted in the local fashion community, and from conception to fabrication, her line has been made exclusively in Los Angeles since 2008
