This simple yet stunning black crocodile 'Charmant Charmant' clutch is a perfect size - not too big and definitely not too small! It was designed by Clare Vivier and inspired by a vest from LACMA’s Costume and Textile collection dating from the French Revolution. Vivier has designed a Clare V. collection for LACMA that embrace the spirit of that garment: here CHARMANT printed twice echoes the silk needlepoint words embroidered on the vest's collar which referred to the new fashion for cropped, unpowdered hair worn by male supporters of the French Revolution. The butterfly and scissors that clipped its wings signify the finery noblemen gave up for the Revolution.
Clare Vivier’s designs marry classic French glamour with minimalist L.A. cool in a line of handbags and clutches that are both utilitarian and stylish. With a nod to socially conscious construction, each bag bears the label “Locally Made." Vivier is firmly rooted in the local fashion community, and from conception to fabrication, her line has been made exclusively in Los Angeles since 2008
These one-of-a-kind items are sold at the LACMA Stores and NET-A-PORTER.COM with proceeds benefiting the museum. This project was created by LACMA’s Director’s Circle.
