This exclusive floral design was created for The Met in celebration of the 2020 reopening of the Museum's galleries of British decorative arts and sculpture.
Produced about 1851–72, the original fabric was designed by Stinton Bros., makers of fine printed-cotton textiles. English manufacturers were at the forefront of the 19th-century Industrial Revolution, developing the first power loom and machine-driven roller printers. Such technology enabled elaborate new patterned designs aimed at fashionable middle-class consumers.
