American Airlines to California tote features a reproduction of a travel poster that was designed by Edward McKnight Kauffer and produced by American Airlines in the late 1940s. This tote comes in different handle colors, if we are out of your preferred color, we will substitute another.
Travel posters present the ultimate fantasy of a place and designers and illustrators strive to capture the most desirable elements of a locale. Kauffer was born in the U.S. but established his career as an illustrator in London just before World War I where his designs for for the London Metro are well known. He moved back to the States at the start of World War II, bringing his modern design aesthetics to his work for American Airlines.
LACMA has a large collection of travel posters in its permanent collection, including several done by American Airlines.
