ALSO white silk blouse features a neckline that can be worn on or off the shoulder. Self-covered buttons run down the front facing and are found on the cuffs of the double balloon sleeves. The back has an elastic band inset at the waist that allows the fabric to gently drape.
ALSO from Moise Emquies is a new label with a modern yet classic take on woman’s shirting. Utilizing a more accessible approach to the classic atelier, ALSO is designed, crafted, produced and distributed out of a warehouse in the Los Angeles Arts District. It is a comprehensive collection—somewhere between the lines of minimal, sophisticated, bold, and loud.
Georges de la Tour’s The Magdalen with the Smoking Flame (c.1638-40) is the inspiration for the pieces created by ALSO. Drawing from the way the Magdalen is depicted in the painting, Emquies' team has designed shirts and dresses to evoke the folds and form of the fabric that she is wearing. As a painter, de La Tour developed a style known for its simplicity, realism, and essential detail. Mary's heavy skirt, thin, wrinkled blouse, smooth flesh, and hair are meticulously distinct. Each spare detail is carefully regulated to achieve an overall balance of form and light.
Wear LACMA has collaborated since October 2012 with an array of established designers who have produced unique art-inspired products from T-shirts, tote bags, and girls’ dresses to fragrances, jewelry, and leather pouches. Designed in California, these items are sold at the LACMA Store and online, with all proceeds benefiting the museum. This project was created by LACMA's Director's Circle.
