French artist Albert Gleizes (1881-1953) believed that being an artist encompassed more than just painting and decorating; he saw and thought for humanity. While he lived most of his life in France, Gleizes was instrumental in the introduction of modern art to America which in turn influenced his art. Neon signs, skyscrapers and references to jazz can be found in his work.
