Member Price
Tsukioka Yoshitoshi, considered the last great master of ukiyo-e woodblock printmaking in Japan, shows the Japanese scholar Kibi Daijin (695–755) on the cover of this journal. Kibi Daijin was sent to China on a diplomatic mission, but before the Chinese officials would accept his documents, they demanded that he pass several tests, including playing the game of go against a skilled player.

Yoshitoshi often created works in series. This print was in a series depicting heroes and heroines, including monks, scholars and renowned beauties.
