Echo Park Pottery Tall Espresso Mug

$32.00 Member Price $28.80

This tall espresso mug is designed by ceramicist and sculptor Peter Shire and made by residents of the Los Angeles neighborhood Echo Park. Shire founded the pottery in 1972 to create ceramics that were more reasonably priced than his gallery work, and named it after the L.A. neighborhood where he was raised.

The splatter series was inspired by the paintings of Sam Francis and the ceramic construction techniques of Adrian Saxe, both artists who have lived and created in Los Angeles.

LACMA's collections include 5 works by Peter Shire, who was one of the few American members of the Memphis group (active from 1981 to 1988), founded by Italian designer Ettore Sottsass.
